The Government’s consultation on its Alcohol Strategy, which includes the level of Minimum Unit Price among other issues, closes on 6th February.
Nook’s Cider yard have submitted a response to this consultation and would encourage other people who have a view on this subject to also consider formally letting the Government know their views. They have blogged summarising the key points and actions required
Most notably
- MUP on the basis of alcohol content alone cannot distinguish Traditional cider made with a majority of freshly pressed apples, from mass-produced industrial cider, therefore it is not a targeted proposal.
- The cider sector is the one most impacted, in terms of price increases. The combination of these two factors cannot be be ignored without further research and consideration.
