As makers of traditional cider we agree that a definition would help the real cider movement. I have felt for some time now that cider has grown in popularity and it is high time that a distinction was made for the discerning. Our cider is, of course (!!) 100% fresh pressed juice

As this site is called Real Cider I think it would be a good idea have some sort of definition on the home page so that users can dicriminate betwwen the real stuff and pretenders who are selling poor quality cider posing as real. Might I suggest the best measure is fresh pressed juice content which could be set at a minimum of say 80% which is well beyond most larger commercial producers but should be easily achieved by craft producers.

Hi there,

We have recently launched a web site that allows you to buy cider online.

We're very excited about sharing our knowledge of fantastic cider makers across the UK. Buy Cider allows independent artisan cider makers to become closer to their end customer. The site acts as a one-stop-shop for customers to search and find ciders from all over the UK that are often hidden to all but locals.

We’ll ensure a truly diverse mixture of the best of our countries ciders, whether it's a long established award winning or new cider maker, single, organic, hand pressed variety, you’ll be guaranteed some of the most diverse and interesting ciders which you simply wouldn’t be able to collect together anywhere else.

This post came directly by email from a reader on Real Cider:

I have heard alot about real cider and the industrial cider that people on the street drink. But ! I would love to know who as in MFR's real cider that is deep in colour and cloudy.real cider as made back in the ole day's who makes it I have tried thatchers Katy cider but is this craft or industrial as some call it?

I have also tried scrumpy jack cider but found this off the mark of katy cider which has a nice palate of flavour.I think to list real cider producers is to give people a real informed choice of what to buy obviously I canot buy real local cider unless they deliver haha, but please list some of the old real cider producers so that people like me can buy their products

Thanks for the kind feedback cider wrangler!

We will be adding exciting information for all cider fans all the time. No doubt you have heard the big debate about pear cider vs. perry. Perry is a wonderful drink nonetheless.

If you have any photos of your cider making feel free to add them to the flickr group.

ps. what is your web site?

Hi Jim
I really like and appreciate your site. As a craft beer fan, I am expanding my horizons towards craft cider and perry and hope to start reviewing them on my site (which I now have a link to yours- hope that's ok)

I am a home brewer and hope to make a batch of cider soon as a friend bought a small 2nd hand cider press recentlty!

Do you plan to include Perry info too? as this is a great drink and the real stuff deserves to get out there and drunk, instead of the mass produced rubbish.

Anyway keep up the good work!

So, you have found the forum, and want to learn all about apples, cider, and maybe even cider making? Perhaps you have been enjoying cider longer than me, probably!

About me - I'm a 30 something techie guy, that loves being outdoors. Currently my day job involves handling various client projects for my web company http://www.callendercreates.com which I am director of.

My love of cider was in the early 2000's, when a friend introduced me to the many types of delicious Somerset ciders. Hecks, Wilkins and his own produce were put in front of me, that evening began in a cider appreciation night, and the rest is history.

I like to attend as many cider events, festivals as possible. There are a great range of beer and cider festivals, where you will be able to sample the good stuff, perhaps local cider to you. My favourite cider festival is probably Welsh cider festival (http://bit.ly/453XUK) every May bank holiday.

This year we have also started making our own cider (http://bit.ly/fVHnN) which we hope will encourage our learning of the production process of cider making on a small scale.

More details about me and the real cider site here - http://www.real-cider.co.uk/about-realcider/

All the best with your cider journey, let's hope we can champion the cider movement together!
